Techniques: One-Row Buttonhole
The following instructions are for a 3-stitch buttonhole. To make a larger or smaller size, just be sure to cast on one more stitch in step 4 than you bound off in step 2.
1. At the point where you want the buttonhole to begin: Bring yarn to front of work, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front. Bring yarn to back.
2. *Slip 1 purlwise, pass the first slipped stitch over the second. Repeat from * 2 more times. (A total of 3 bound-off stitches for a 3-stitch buttonhole.)
3. Place the last stitch back on the left needle. Turn the work.
4. Cast on 4 stitches using cable cast-on (one more stitch than was bound off in step 2). Turn the work.
5. Bring yarn to back, slip first stitch of left needle to right needle and pass the last cast-on stitch over it.
